You get a new client in your practice or student on your caseload and once again we have an /r/ situation. You start out clear. Step one the sound in isolation. But it is not there. You show the student/client or even adult and they are just not able to imitate this sound. You remember learning along with so much other information of how to elicit the sound. Oral motor exercises. But they feel well very personal and you need to feel super confident before your diving in there. I have been there. When I hung out my part time shingle to tutor some private clients as a side gig, /r/ was what brought students to the door. One of the first products I created was an oral motor for /r/ , since renamed R Sound Stamps: Seasonal Pages and Expert Tips. This was done first for the benefit for the students in front of me at the time.. I needed to remember exactly how to wake up the tongue and describe the placement and tension involved in a strong /r/. How can we get from not producing the /r/ to a strong confident vocalic.

What is includes:

  • Tips and tools for eliciting a strong, accurate /r/ sound.
  • Exercises that strengthen essential tongue and mouth muscles for improved articulation.
  • Nonsense words for coarticulation

How It Works:

  1. Begin with simple nonsense words that use placement from one sound to the /r/
  2. Guide your students to focus on the movements of their tongue and lips, ensuring they’re in close proximity to the correct placement for /r/.
  3. Gradually increase the complexity of the nonsense words, helping students build coordination and confidence in their articulation.

This approach not only strengthens the muscles needed for /r/ but also prepares students to transition the skill into real words, phrases, and sentences with ease.

Perfect For:

  • SLPs helping students overcome persistent /r/ sound challenges.
  • Students of all ages, from preschoolers to adults, who need extra support with /r/ production.
  • Therapists looking for simple, research-based strategies that save time and deliver results.

Give your students the tools they need to succeed with /r/ while keeping therapy sessions effective and enjoyable!
